Shetland's shortening day

Today the sun came up at 8.27 and went down again at 3.15. That cannot be called a long day, now can it.

A good day but a short one.
In just over a week the sun comes up at 8.50 in the morning and goes down again at 3.00 in the afternoon. That's about six hours of sunlight - how much shorter can the day get? Will it be worth getting out of bed in the morning? Will I still be snoring in the afternoon? Who can tell and who cares :))

The days are getting shorter

The days are really getting shorter now as the sun comes up at around ten past eight in the morning, stays up and visible for less than seven and a half hours and goes down again a minute before three thirty in the middle of the afternoon.

Certainly not a long day now but don't worry, it will get shorter yet. Sunrise and sunset at the moment are beautiful and happen at just the right time to enjoy!!!

That's Shetland for us, eh :))

What a change

It's stopped raining, the sky has cleared and the sun is beaming at the moment so I'm going to nip out and see if I can do any work in the garden this afternoon.

It has been a few days since I've been out there and it certainly makes a difference (and it's not a good one) over such a short time.

Right, must run before things change again ;))

It's only eleven in the morning and I'm blooming starving. It's a bit ridiculous as I've already had a decent breakfast.

I'm not going to fight any longer though. Lunch will be kipper, carrot and potatoes and it'll taste great. No point chapping on the door in hope as there's only one fish that I'll admit to.

The problem is that I'll end up having dinner at about two-thirty in the afternoon.

Hope that you all enjoy your morning coffee - and please don't tell me that you're starving too.

Wonder if Alex likes kippers, should have thought about that before I only put the one in the pot :(

Was it "So little time, so much to do!!!" or the other way around???

Lately, I’ve been teaching myself to knit and it’s been quite rewarding. I suppose that I’ve done it for two reasons – firstly, to keep myself busy. I think that we all have the problem when there is nothing to do. Well, the knitting should help to cure that, even if it’s just finishing a pair of socks. Oh, and I’ve got two left feet so I’ll only knit left foot socks and secondly so that I can have exactly what I want. But it will give me a lot to do. You know what it's like, an idea comes into your head and off you go, looking for whatever it was that you thought about and you walk for miles and miles, finding yourself halfway across Europe by the middle of the afternoon. You haven't seen what you're looking for and there is no bus home. Well, this should be it sorted.

I’ve also decided to learn a second language. With the chances of Scotland going it alone being quite good and that giving Shetland a better chance of doing the same, I’ve decided to teach myself to speak Norwegian. It shouldn’t be that hard as Shetlandic has a lot of similarity with Norwegian. The spelling is immensely different I think but I’ll find out as I go. Any success at either and I'll be full of it, spewing out all the guff incessantly no doubt.

If you get bored, just put the kettle on, I take two sugars, by the way.
