My girlfriend and I

We're all home in Shetland now, my girlfriend and I, and of course the wee cat. In all honesty, not so long ago he was a kitten but he's settled quickly and yesterday he made his first visit into the back garden. The window was left open for him, he took a quick sniff of the air and jumped out. Now he jumps in and out all the time.

The sun is out today and the wind is non-existent which is good for people to move into but it won't be long until both Kate and the cat are both aware just what the weather can be like on the Atlantic coast - and let's be honest - it's only three or four miles away from the North Sea. No protection to be had here at all.

It's going to be a good life for us here in Northmavine at the northern end of Mainland, here in Shetland. It's a good place to live if you appreciate a quiet life, surrounded by lots of natural life, both on the land and in the sea. It's amazing how many seals, dolphins and whales that you see in the water.

Must admit, I've never caught a kipper yet though :))

Today is a bit of a change

It is a bit of a change today. Last night when I came home I watered the trees as I told you - and then it rained all night. A bit pointless really, wasn't it, oh well ;))

It's raining off and on today too so I won't be watering the trees today again as they don't really need it at the moment but I won't be totally idle. In the post arrive some bird feed and a feeder to put it in so I'll hang that and fill it. That way I can sit and watch the birds feeding themselves and perhaps make some new friends as well.

Not very sure just which birds are around so it might be quite a profitable day, we'll see :))

Ferrets

I live on my own and that's ok, it's my choice and I'm happy but I've just seen a thing about ferrets and it fair rattles the memory.

When I was but a youth, three or four decades ago, a couple of friends kept ferrets, one as a pet and the other friend had more sporting intentions. The intentions never came off, it was really a pet but both ferrets were well looked after.

Coming across them on the computer, I've started to wonder, should I, at my age, could I???

It would stop me getting lonely and talking to myself. You know how people point and snigger if you do that in public :))

Thieves

Last night, in Edinburgh, I had my jacket stolen and in the pocket was my mobile phone. I had gone to meet two or three guys that I hadn't seen for oh, ten years. We've been friends for thirty-odd years and a good time was had by all - and then I realised that my jacket etc was gone.

It was ten degrees under so it was a chilly trip home. I will buy myself a jacket and call it a Christmas present. Then I'll buy a mobile phone and call it life.

Hope they enjoy their Christmas, if they had let me know I'd have wrapped them up and stuck them, well I'd have stuck them somewhere near the tree, I'm sure that you understand.

But let's not moan all day, eh!!
