Happy again

The weather hasn't been too good since I got home but today it has changed. There is no wind blowing this morning and there's only very light cloud overhead.

Yet again it gives me the chance to potter about in the garden, feed the birds and keep myself happy. It's amazing just what you do to entertain yourself, isn't it.

Right, better get down to it before I'm too old or lazy or the winter sets in or something. Not that he'll give me any help, jumping around in the water like that.

Feeding the birds

The bird-feeder was empty so, obviously, the birds weren’t spending too much time in my back garden. I can’t say that I blame them for that but I do like to see them so I decided to deal with the problem.

I went into the shed and there it was, the food for all the birds. I decided to take it round to the back garden and fill the feeder there so around to it I went with the feed.

When I got there I laid the big bag of bird-food down and turned around to get the feeder to fill it up.

 Guess what happened when my back was turned?

Yes, you’re right, the big bag fell over and the feed inside poured out, lots and lots of it, bird feed so not that easy to get back into the bag, especially when the grass hasn’t been cut for a while.

I did my best though and filled the feeder too. After all, that was the job that I was there for.

But the amount of food for the birds that has been left on the lawn is working well, the birds love it.

They go nowhere near where I intended though:))

I don't like Monday's

I don't like Monday's, not at all. When I think about it, I'm probably not the only one either. Compare today with the weekend when the sun was beaming down, there was no wind and it was lovely and warm.

Today it's comparatively cold, it's windy and the sun is in hiding. Not the same sort of weather at all. I did have thoughts regarding the garden but I must be honest when I say that those thoughts have dribbled away now. Oh dear, what a shame.

Must be honest again when I say that today I plan today to do bugger all.

There's always tomorrow :))

What a change

It's stopped raining, the sky has cleared and the sun is beaming at the moment so I'm going to nip out and see if I can do any work in the garden this afternoon.

It has been a few days since I've been out there and it certainly makes a difference (and it's not a good one) over such a short time.

Right, must run before things change again ;))

What a surprise

What a huge surprise. What a huge, massive surprise. Since I raised my head this morning it snowed until about ten-thirty and I wasn't going out to plant trees in that weather. True, it wasn't lying but the snow was falling continually throughout.

Then the snow stopped falling, so I immediately put my jumper on and went out to put the trees into the garden. There was no wind, it was totally still and it was mild, so mild that the jumper that I had put on inside I promptly took off outside. How strange ;))

Anyway, I've got the trees planted and watered and must remember to water them daily. I lost last years trees and I'm blaming myself for that. I truly believe that I made too little effort. I basically dug small holes, stuck them in, watered them a couple of times and did no more.

This year will be a little different. For a start, I'll water them every day regardless of the weather. If it's pouring down with rain and blowing a horrendous gale then I'll be out there, watering the trees. After all, they're like you and me, they need a little care taken, it's not a lot for them to ask for, is it and the pleasure that I'll get from them will be worth it a million times over

So please, don't let me forget, they have to be cared for every day, regardless of what else is going on in my life :))  

The snow has stopped

The snow, thank goodness, has stopped and I still have two Austrian pines so it's time to get dressed, run out of the door and get them planted.

I just hope that they last a little longer than last years efforts because it will make such a difference to the garden. It will protect all that is growing there from the wind for a start :))

Black viola's

I had an epileptic seizure yesterday so today I'm not going out to do the work needed in the back garden. Instead, I'm going to sit here in my chair and fiddle around with my computer and look out the window and enjoy the sight of two of the pines that are at the top of the garden.

If all goes well, I'll go out at the weekend and do what needs to be done and tomorrow I'll get the pansy's, the clematis and my favourites, the black viola's started. I must admit that I'm looking forward the most to seeing  them flowering later on. There is also a new one that I've never tried before but they'll look good if they grow well and that is some cactus. I'm looking forward to seeing them, they'll be a little different.

But right now I'm going to see the doctor, with every intention of making a real nuisance of myself. That always brightens me up.

They're young, very spiky and in really good health

Tomorrow won't be much different, I don't think. It really has been on and off, on and off all day and it doesn't look like changing much.

The piccies that I promised of the new forest in the huge back garden will turn up but the way that things are going it may well be a bit nearer to July before they get taken. That's Shetland for you.

The trees do cheer me up though, they're young, very spiky and in really good health - at the moment. Hopefully I'll get the pic's taken before things change. Last year they took no time to go downhill and the worst bit was the fact that I never really worked out what happened or why.



Fingers crossed, this years trees will be better :))

They've done it again

They've done it again. The BBCordless have been at it again. You couldn't believe it, could you? I find it a bit difficult myself but hey, it's a lovely sunny day. You don't hear many complaints when the sun is out, do you ;)

I doubt that you'll hear much from me today because I'll be topping up my non-existing (Yet!!!) suntan and watching the Scots pines that I moved into the garden yesterday dying graciously - or possibly they will just tell me to bugger off, we'll see :)

Saturday morning and the beginning of spring

It's Saturday morning and the beginning of spring. The sun is showing on the water and it's warming up.

It is calm and mild and will be a beautiful day if the sun stays with us which, hopefully, it will.

What a sight for 6.00am.

You don't get sights like this everywhere you know. Wonder how well my trees will grow now, if at all. They spent a year on my doorstep but it was time to move them, they didn't look too good yesterday, to be honest they looked as if they were coming to an end so they are in the garden now. Fingers crossed that they will survive.

I won't mention the other two or three that have keeled over!!!

A big decision

That's it, I've made a big decision. Instead of sitting on my fat arse all afternoon, I'm going to stand on it instead.

I have two Scots Firs in pots at the front door and at present they don't look too well at all. In the garden they will get watered better as it rains a little more often than I get the hose out. It's rained this year and that says it all, I think. Therefore, they might recover, you never know.

Fingers crossed, eh.

Maybe the sun will stay out

I think that it will be a "little said" day today because it is nice and sunny so you might find me in the back garden, irritating the birds or the sheep that are staring at me from the other side of the fence.

Then again, I might just sleep in the sun, if it stays out of course ;)

Sound daft? It's guaranteed!!!

Does anyone remember that a few days ago I commented on learning to knit? Well, the yarn and the pins arrived this morning so there's not much excuse now, no reason to dodge the column and all that.

I've found a couple of short films on youtube,  How to knit - The basics and How to knit - Casting on so I think that I'll have a good look at them, the first one is about six minutes and the second is around three minutes and after watching them I expect to be able to knit a new garden or something.

If I never mention anything about knitting again then I'm sure that you can work out why.

Please, no gales of laughter outside my front door, it'll stop the neighbours getting a decent nights sleep :))
